Alexander Rose

The Mim School, Ghana, West Africa

Alexander Rose have historically sourced most of their timber furniture in Ghana, West Africa. The furniture factory is based in MIM, a small village in central Ghana, where the workforce are all local people to the area. Workers are paid good wages and receive healthcare for themselves and their families.

The MIM School was started in 1998 with the factory sourcing the land and constructing the classrooms. Local children are given the opportunity of an excellent education and are being trained for the future, to provide skills for the growing local economy.

Here in the UK, Alexander Rose actively fundraises for the school; the provision of computers and sports equipment are specific examples of successful initiatives.

Alexander Rose promotes a child sponsorship programme for the Mim School, allowing children from less well off families access to the school. The network of employees, customers and friends of Alexander Rose who are involved in the sponsorship of the Mim School is ever increasing.

Currently the school has in excess of 400 pupils covering the full age range from 4 – 18; from Kindergarten, through primary and onto secondary. The school population is evenly split between age groups and gender.

The Mim school has total full time staffing of 25, of which 17 are qualified teachers.
