Alexander Rose South Lodge Spa Commercial Installation

The Spa at South Lodge

South Lodge country house hotel sits proudly atop of a hill in Horsham, with uninterrupted views of the rolling Sussex countryside splayed beneath. The grounds are bursting with colour, with magnificent rhododendrons, wisteria and azaleas in every direction.

And if that wasn’t enticing enough for a long-weekend’s stay, 2019 saw the opening of their 44,000 square foot luxury spa, which was built around the natural contours of the land. It was a very long-anticipated project, with a 15 million pound investment. The expectations from all were very, very high.

The brief

Sparc Studios, the design consultants for the spa development project, initially contacted us to quote for their poolside loungers alone, but after realising that we could manufacture completely bespoke furniture, their brief naturally expanded, and we were only too excited to be able to assist.

We learned that the house had been built by Frederick DuCane Godman, a British naturalist and plant collector, in the early 1800’s. This inspired the design concept for the spa to have a botanical theme throughout, paired with textured fabrics and complementary earthy tones.

The end result

The furniture, despite being completely bespoke in design, took just under 5 months to deliver. From the first consultation right through to installation, which we completed across 2 days. It was so exciting seeing the new furniture in situ at this magnificent location. With every lounger and side table that was added, the spa became more alive, as the opening date also inched closer.

We were very happy with the way this project turned out. Bespoke sun loungers, opulent daybeds, sprawling sofas and the iconic ‘teardrop’ chairs were crafted with our viro weave in 2 bespoke, earthy colours, to go with the natural theme of the project. Some of our beige cordial rope furniture was also added to the outdoor terrace to add some different textures to this space.

The same cushion fabric was used to create flow and continuity between the inside and outside of the spa.

Not only does the furniture look extremely high-end and offer supreme comfort, it can also be left outside all year round and requires very little in the way of maintenance.

We’ve since worked with Sparc Studio on a number of other exciting projects including Mottram Hall and Cottonmill Spa.
